Museu Puget

Nestled in the heart of Dalt Vila, the historic old town of Ibiza declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999, the Museu Puget houses a distinguished collection dedicated to the artistic legacy of Narcís Puget Viñas (1874–1960) and his son Narcís Puget Riquer (1916–1983), two influential figures in Spanish painting whose works capture everyday life and landscapes of Ibiza throughout the 20th century. Housed in the stately Can Comasema, a grand 15th-century manor that itself bears marks of different architectural periods, the museum was inaugurated in 2007 following significant restoration efforts funded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, symbolizing national recognition of the island’s cultural heritage. The museum’s permanents collections include evocative watercolors and oil paintings depicting traditional Ibizan customs, social gatherings, rural scenery, and vivid portraits that document a rapidly changing society before the island’s transformation into a modern tourist destination. Beyond these collections, the Museu Puget frequently hosts temporary exhibitions and educational events contextualizing Balearic art and history, with archival materials highlighting both the personal stories of the Puget family and broader historical episodes such as the Spanish Civil War’s impact on the local arts community. The building’s elevated position offers visitors panoramic views of the port and the Mediterranean, enhancing its reputation not only as a cultural hub but also as a testament to Ibiza’s enduring historical and artistic significance.
